I require the quilt backing to be a minimum of 5" extra ON ALL SIDES.

 

For example, if you have a quilt top that is 60" x 80" your backing needs to measure at least 70" x 90." It can be bigger, but not smaller. If you piece your backing, I recommend that you first remove the selvage edges to prevent puckering, sew a 1/2" seam and press the seam open. Measure your backing to be sure that it is square.

 

Please clip stray threads on back of quilt top as best as you can to prevent dark threads from shadowing through. If your quilt top is without boarders backstitch each outer edge seam or stitch 1/8' around the entire quilt top to keep the seams intact.
